Bella: Candy’s Cafe is famous in Maple Springs. Candy’s my mom. Candice is her full name, but in her younger, wilder days she was Candy, bubbly and sweet and spreading love and happiness to anyone who came to the cafe. But when Mom has an accident, it’s up to me to do all the baking. I’m a creative cookie decorator, but my baking sucks. Then Mom hires Sam to teach me the finer points. He’s tall and delicious, and I’ll do anything to get my hands on his sweet cookies. But he’s only in town for a few weeks. We agree that it’s no strings attached, but can I stick to that?

Sam: The moment I see Bella I know she’ll be mine. She sprinkles a bit of joy into everything she bakes with her bright clothing and outrageous hair. My body craves her, and my heart wants her. But I know I’m going to have to leave. My life is on the road, but this is one sweet treat I’m unwilling to leave behind.

A delusional dragon shifter thinks I need his help. Ha. I’m a detective. Why would I need help from an exotic dancer on a case that involves dark magic? We’re searching for demons, not dollars. Lucas is persistent, as if he’s burned his brain flying too close to the sun. But I don’t need this scaly shifter’s help solving crimes. Or his all-too-personal attention. Even if he almost entrances me while he dances by rolling his amazingly chiseled abs… Such fine abs. No, focus. Demons are a bigger threat than my dry spell. So whatever he’s offering, is a big, fat nope.

When Dad’s best friend and I end up in a hotel room together, the start of my summer was suddenly a lot more exciting than I expected! Ethan drove me home from university, and I assumed the road trip would be a fun little adventure. But due to a highway closure, he thought it would be safest for us to stay overnight in a hotel. In the last room available. In the only bed. Together. Naturally, I was going to have intense feelings for the most gorgeous man I’d ever seen, who touched me as if I already belonged to him. He insisted on being a perfect gentleman, but it was clear he wanted me. It was impossible not to give in to a passion that was bigger than both of us. But was it just for the weekend? He was extremely wealthy and ran two companies. Could he be genuinely interested in me? And if he was, which one of us would break it to his old university roommate and best friend – my Dad? I’d never disobeyed my father before. Ever. The only thing that mattered was the way Ethan held me, whispered in my ear, and treated me like a treasure that he was delighted to have discovered. Experiencing lust for the first time was exhilarating, but if it’s closely followed by love, it might be worth risking everything.

The last thing a perpetual bachelor like me needs is to start a fake relationship with my hot mess neighbor. I’m not a commitment kind of guy—not anymore. Much to my family’s disapproval, I stick with what works for me: casual relationships and short term flings. So why the hell did I agree? Not because Emma is an adorable wreck who I want writhing beneath me. Definitely not because there’s something about her that gets under my skin. The blame lies with my well-intentioned family and meddlesome small town. Because in return for helping her navigate the dating world, she agreed to be my pretend girlfriend to keep my family off my back. It’s the perfect scenario. After our arrangement ends, we’ll part ways. Because we have no future. Emma’s past has made her crave what she’s never experienced—attachments and love. And I plan to stay far away from both, despite her adoring glances and the burning need I can feel in her sweet, curious touch. Now I just have to keep my hands from exploring her smooth skin, remind myself not to devour her pouty lips, and—most importantly—not let her fall for me. Because I won’t let her fall in love with someone who may never be capable of loving her back.
